Tim Roberts Quality-of-Life Fund
Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center

We are very inspired by the Tim Roberts Quality-of-Life Fund. Our social workers in the Care Coordination Department at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center find that the fund is an excellent resource when special wishes and desires arise that are not directly related to care or to day-to-day living. This new fund has helped young people between 17 and 26 who are being treated for cancer at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center. We have helped patients with leukemia, head and neck cancer, and testicular cancer among others. While we have modest patient assistance funds that help with day-to-day living expenses – for example, help with a car payment or a utility bill – this is the first time we have been able to address the kinds of requests that support a patient’s quality-of-life wishes and dreams.
The kinds of quality-of-life activities we have been able to support through the Tim Roberts Quality-of Life Fund are:
….a trip to New York City to stay overnight and see a play…..a delayed honeymoon that covered two nights on the Cape…a trip to Key West for a patient who brought a friend…….hiking boots…….help with a laptop computer for a nursing student…….books for a hospice patient….a handheld video game (PSP) with two games.
We are so grateful for the vision that inspired this very special fund. Tim’s wish for young people like himself is being honored each time we match a wish or dream with this wonderful resource.
